Little Raven Pictures

Our Story

Our namesake, Chief Little Raven
(b. Colorado 18?? - d. Oklahoma 1889)
was the Southern Arapaho Chief who welcomed pale faces to Denver. He was a man of peace, more interested in learning and sharing culture than fighting. His friendly relations with the European settlers lead to his being warned about Sand Creek. When the massacre happened killing many Arapaho, Little Raven and his tribe were miles away and safe. He signed the Medicine Lodge Treaty of 1867, consigning the Southern Arapaho to Oklahoma, where he helped his people adjust to reservation life.

Weaving in Raven

Evidence suggests that ravens mate for life. Todd and Claire were married in an outdoor ceremony at Chief Hosa Lodge located in the heart of Genesee Mountain Park. Chief Hosa Lodge is named for Chief Little Raven. The whites called him Hosa (peacekeeper) because, despite white atrocities and pressure from his tribe to fight back, he welcomed them to Colorado. Inspired by Chief Little Ravens hospitality, cultural curiosity and constant promotion of peace we are happy to carry his name along our journey as Little Raven Pictures.
